New Year

Happy New Year and welcome 2019!

It’s the start of a new year, so what are my goals? They say we should all set a goal or a couple of goals to go by for the new year, so let me share mine, but I will only share the goals I have for writing.

1. Finish the first draft on my new WIP

2. Start revisions on my WIP I have just recently finished its first draft.

3. Read as much as I can.

4. Keep on querying.

5. Engage in as much writing communities as possible.

6. Find myself representation and start setting out for publication.

7. And lastly and most importantly . . . make some more writing buddies!

Soo, there it is, my writing goals for 2019! I might not achieve them all, but the most important goal I want to set for myself is to try, even if I don’t succeed.

Now, what are your goals?

When do you call Yourself a Writer?

There has always been a bit of a debate about when you can call yourself a writer: when you’re published, when you hit the NYT bestsellers list, or when you have a big following. But there shouldn’t be. The very moment you sit down, open that laptop and start typing, you are a writer.  Whether that be less than a hundred words or over 70,000.

There is no rule in saying you have to be published to be a real writer, and there never was. That saying has always baffled me, and I never believed to be any truth to that.

Take this quote by Chuck Sambuchino for example:

There is no set time in when you can call yourself a writer, and there should never be. So-

YOU ARE A WRITER the second you type a word. So, don’t ever feel down if/whenever someone laughs at you or puts you down once they find out you write. DON’T EVER feel ashamed. You have nothing to be ashamed of. Writing is magic, and you have the power to create. So, be proud of yourself on anything you create, even if it’s not finished. At least you had the guts to start, they didn’t.
